Namuwongo Blazers have drawn first blood after taking a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series.
Nam Blazers secured a 68-60 hard fought victory against UCU Canons in game one of the National Basketball League semifinal Playoff series at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Tuesday.
The Blazers’ head coach Stephen Nyeko staged a thrilling squad rotation plan thus seeing off the Mukono-based side.
UCU Canons struggled outside the paint as they only managed to convert three of their 20 attempts on the day.
Nam Blazers opened up an 11-point lead (27-16) at the end of the opening quarter as the crowd joined the party in chants and jubilation.
Joel Kayira concluded the second period with a layup as the Canons trailed by eight points (32-40) going into the halftime break.
Coming from the break, Arthur Wanyoto capped the third quarter with a simple layup as the Blazers held onto a seven-point lead (56-49).
The Blazers managed the clock smartly and controlled the tempo in the final quarter as they sealed an eight-point victory.
Ivan Muhwezi (14 points), Joel Lukoji (12 points) and Anthony Chukwubuka (10 points) led the Blazers’ scoring chart in double digits.
Joel Kayira managed a double-double dropping 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds in the losing effort.
