Namuwongo Blazers have boosted their squad with a duo of power forward Joseph Obasa and guard John Murry ahead of the Road to Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2026 Division East in Tanzania.

The tournament will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from October 17 to 19.

The Blazers are set to make their debut appearance at the qualifiers, having been confirmed as Uganda’s representatives to end the uncertainty.

This decision followed the withdrawal of last season’s champions, City Oilers, while other semifinalists, UCU Canons and Sommet, were not interested.

Obasa, born in 1999 and standing at 6 feet 10 inches, brings crucial size and presence to the paint.

He previously played for Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines and featured in professional leagues across Malaysia and the Philippines.

His career foundation was set at MPAC Sports Academy before his subsequent rise across Asia.

Murry joins the Blazers, bringing extensive experience from various professional leagues across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

The Austin Peay State University graduate averaged 17.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists during his college career.

The arrival of Obasa and Murry provides the Blazers with much-needed depth as they target progression to the Elite 16 stage.

This East Division round runs from November 18 to 23, with the best finishers advancing to the 2026 BAL final phase in Kigali, Rwanda.

Namuwongo’s assignment is clear; this continental debut presents an opportunity to make a significant statement on the continent, following solid performances from City Oilers.
