The defending champions of the Women’s National Basketball League, JKL Lady Dolphins, shockingly fell behind to UCU Lady Canons in the Playoffs Semifinals.
The Lady Dolphins suffered a 57-46 defeat on the opening night of the five-game series last week in a game where they played their worst offence of the season.
While the Lady Canons were excellent on defense, smoothly running through transition and zone to keep Hope Akello away from the basket.
“We kept playing their pace, and in terms of pace, UCU plays better, quicker… We kept playing terrible offense, which kept UCU in the game. We played terrible, terrible offence and got punished for it. We just have to do better,” Henry Malinga said in the aftermath of Game 1.
“The ladies didn’t come out hard and tough [in Game 1]; they kept complaining to the refs and our focus wasn’t there. We lost sight of our objective and got punished.”
Going into tonight’s Game 2 at Lugogo Indoor Stadium, Malinga believes the experience in the group should count for something.
“We have experienced players on this team; there are very creative players as well, and I felt they did not explore that bit of their game. They took the game casually and you cannot do that in a semifinal.
