Namuwongo Blazers are hitting a road untravelled this weekend. The Blazers will be in the coastal city of Dar es Salaam to embark on the Road to BAL 2026.

After their last training before departing for Tanzania, head coach Stephen Nyeko and veteran guard Jimmy Enabu expressed content with the work put in ahead of the tournament.

Three players, John Murry II, Ray BeReal, and Joseph Obasa, were added to the group ahead of the tournament, and Nyeko stresses they have blended in well during the period they have trained together.

“The three players have blended in well; they are not ball hogs, they look out for their teammates, so the camp is [going] well.

“We look pretty much ready to compete and the goal is to qualify for Elite 16. I can say we are ready to compete,” Nyeko told Kawowo Sports.

“The new guys bring a certain level of experience, composure and they are intelligent players who are ready to work hard for the team, and I think the team is generally better,” Enabu adds.

The Blazers will compete against Djabal Club and Tanzania’s Dar City for the available two slots to the Elite 16.

“Our goal is to qualify for Elite 16 and so we must go out there to compete and when we compete well out chances of qualifying will be at 80%,” says Nyeko.

“I think the team looks ready. We have had enough time to prepare, we got a few additions, so the team looks ready but there is only one way to tell and that will be after Game 1, but for now we are feeling a good as a team.

“There’s always pressure when things are at stake but we will use that pressure to motivate us and put us in a better position to compete.

“I think the group is a good one, it’s ready, it’s motivated, so I think we have a very good shot at qualifying for Elite 16,” Enabu adds.
