Overview:
The 50 most influential women in sports awards are organized by Africa Sports Ventures Group (ASVG) and the Women Sports Africa Network (WSAN) to honour the outstanding female leaders, athletes, executives and change-makers who are reshaping the African sports landscape. These will take place in Nairobi city, Kenya on the 8th November 2025 at the 5 Star Prestigious Sankara Hotel.
Monicca Nassuuna and Ali Mavita are the two Ugandans nominated in the 50 Most Influential African Women in Sports Awards 2025.
Nassuna is a Ugandan basketball referee nominated in the coaching and technical excellence category.
On the other hand, Mavita has been nominated for community development and advocacy.


The other categories include sports business and marketing, media and journalism, athletic performance, tech and innovation, as well as legends’ impact and diaspora.
These awards are organised by Africa Sports Ventures Group (ASVG) and the Women Sports Africa Network (WSAN) to honour the outstanding female leaders, athletes, executives and change-makers who are reshaping the African sports landscape.

These will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from 6th to 8th November 2025 at Sankara Hotel.
The opening day (6th November) will have the Expo opening and workshops, followed by Expo continuation, workshops and summit whose theme will be “Ubuntu in Action: African women redefining Global Leadership in Sports”.
The awards night proper will be on the 8th November 2025 (7 PM to 10 PM).
For starters, Nassuuna is a trailblazing Ugandan basketball referee, recognised for her officiating in multiple FIBA U19 and U18 World Cups.
She has led officiating at the Basketball Africa League, AfroBasket, and 3×3 Africa Cup finals, showcasing technical excellence and leadership.
Nassuuna actively mentors and develops women referees in Uganda through FIBA courses and dedicated referee clinics.
Her impact on basketball officiating and women’s sports development makes her a transformative figure in African sports.
She is also set to officiate at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Mavita is a former Basketball player who founded Score Beyond Leadership organisation, using sport to empower the youth, advance gender equity and drive social change in Uganda.
The jury panel has a crop of tried and tested personalities as Dr Memuna Williams, Sebine Malik, Dr Abdul Rahma Lamin, Coralie Van Der Berg, Bhavana Pramod, Albert Kyei Frimpong, Diane Huffman, Dancan Muhindi, Diana Asonaba Dapaah, Ytannia Wiggins, Dr Tshepang Tshube, Dr Maha Zaoui, Jean-Claude Rugigana, Nisha Van Hoek and Rania El Rafie.
In 2024, Peninah Kabenge was among the winners from Uganda.
