Vipers SC’s journey in the CAF Champions League agonizingly came to an end on Friday evening at the hands of Power Dynamos from Zambia.

Going into today’s return leg, Vipers SC needed nothing short of a win to stand a chance of progressing to the group stage. It should be noted that the Venoms lost the first leg 2-1 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Vipers coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert made five changes from the team that had started in the reverse fixture. Rogers Torach started at the heart of defence alongside Hillary Mukundane in place of suspended Kevin Daslyva.

The other changes saw Enock Luyima start at left back ahead of Derrick Ndahiro, Enock Ssebagala replaced Abdu Karim Watambala while Gusto Mulongo and Arafat Usama Kizza replaced Yunus Sentamu and Milton Karisa, respectively.

The game played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola was closely contested but it was the hosts that broke the deadlock through Kenyan striker Moses Shumah in the 68th minute.

Watambala came off the bench to score the equalizer for Vipers SC but the result was not good enough to send them into the next phase.

Power Dynamos therefore advance to the group stage, 3-2 on aggregate and now await the draw event slated for 3rd November to learn their next opponents.
