Victoria Series | Game 5 Result

  • Uganda 101/4
  • Canada 89 all out
  • Uganda won by 12 runs

Uganda’s Victoria Pearls completed a clean sweep of the visiting Canada Women’s Team in their final match of the Victoria Series with a 12-run win.

The visitors were strong in the final game but not good enough to survive a 12-run loss. The hosts made some changes to the playing XI with Teddy Oyella coming in for Consy Aweko.

Canada won the toss and elected to bowl in the final game. Esther Iloku did not thrive much in the series was the first to depart but contributions from captain Janet Mbabazi (26) and her vice Rita Musamali (20) gave Uganda the lift to post 101/4 in their 20 overs.

In the run chase, Jane Naume Amongin (3/12) was the standout bowler and also picked up the Player of the Match award. She got support from Oyella (4/19) with Sarah Tino and Rita Musamali picking up a wicket each.

Canada showed improvement throughout the whole series but they were never allowed to get past 100 runs in the series. However, they gave a great account of themselves against a superior Ugandan side. In the games which Uganda batted first, they were put on the back foot with some early inroads, but their experience got them out of tough situations.

Uganda will take some lessons from the series; the team didn’t show much courage in their run scoring, they barely scored at more than five runs every over, with their highest score of the tournament being 113.

Deus Muhumuza and Brian Masaba have time to work with the batters to get their confidence going for them to be ready for the Emerging Cup in Thailand.

Kevin Amuge

The technical team will be impressed with their bowlers, especially Kevin Amuge, who won the Best Bowler of the Series award, while Jane Naume Amongin showed that she has put what happened in Namibia behind her and gave a great account of her skills in the series. The young Sarah Tino made an impression and the return of Rita Musamali with ball-in-hand also gives the side more options.

Immaculate Nakisuyi won the Player of Series award, while Canada Captain Amarpal Kaur won the Best Batter.
