Following a successful inaugural season of the Mountain Dew UG3x3 Series last year, the second edition is in the pipeline.
Season 2 of the nationwide UG3x3 Basketball Series was launched on Wednesday morning at Kati Kati in Lugogo, with more prize money to be awarded to the winning teams at each stop.
The second edition, launched by Red Rhino Sports and Mountain Dew in association with FUBA, will have four stops across the country in Mukono, Mbarara, Kampala and Gulu before the Grande Finale, to be hosted at Lugogo, bringing together the best teams from each stop.
Prize money of Ugx 2,000,000 (two million shillings) has been set aside for each stop, with the winning men’s and women’s teams each walking away with Ugx. 500,000, as well as automatically qualifying for the Grand Final. Runners-up will walk away with Ugx. 200,000.
The winning men’s and women’s teams at the Final will each pocket Ugx 2,000,000 (Two million shillings) while the runner-up teams will each win Ugx 1,000,000 (One million shillings). Cash prizes have also been set aside for the best individual players at each stop as well as at the final.
Grace Namutebi, the Brand Manager of Mountain Dew, shared her excitement about the brand being part of the UG3x3 series again.
“Mountain Dew is an urban, hip brand that has been associated with basketball for a long time. We are excited to be a part of this 3×3 Series that will be taking place across the country, bringing both our brand and the sport closer to the grassroots.
“It’s going to be great and exciting for both the players and fans and we are looking forward to it,” Namutebi said.
Red Rhino Sports Director, Samuel Akwech, said they are pleased to bring yet another tournament to provide athletes a platform to showcase their skills, entertain fans and win great prizes.

It should be noted that participation in the Mountain Dew UG3x3 series is open to all basketball players under 25 years old. The players simply have to come together and form a team of 4 people with the following criteria;
- All players should be under 25 years old
- A maximum of two (2) National Basketball League players per team
- A minimum of two (2) Ugandan nationals per team
- Registration Fee Ugx. 20,000 per team
Last season, St Noa defeated a largely experienced Team 3-Peat 16-11 to win the women’s category, while Cole World edged Team VBL 15-13 to top the men’s category in the grand finale hosted at Lugogo Hockey Grounds.
