The Rebecca Cheptegei Memorial Run is a tribute to the life and legacy of Cheptegei Rebecca, a bright, determined, and inspiring young woman whose life was tragically cut short by Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Rebecca embodied courage, kindness, and hope for a better future. She touched the lives of many with her resilience and compassion, and her story continues to inspire action for change.
This memorial run will take place on 22nd November 2025 in Bukwo. It is more than an athletic event.
It is a celebration of Rebecca’s life and enduring spirit, a call to action against Gender-Based Violence and an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for community programs that create safer, stronger futures.
“By joining us on 22nd November in Bukwo, you help keep Rebecca’s light shining and turn her legacy into a beacon of hope and change for generations to come” Immaculate Chemutai, a Uganda Female Marathoner, who is the chief organizer.

Chemutai clarifies that they are targeting all categories elites athletes, upcoming senior and Junior athletes, and also primary and secondary kids.
The estimated number of athletes intended is 600 and the whole Sebei community so that the sensitization about the Gender Based Violence can easily be done.
The main objectives of this memorial run will entail honoring the legacy of Rebecca Cheptegei, promoting the spirt of sportsmanship, unifying the community, raising awareness and public understanding of Gender Based Violence and increasing its public understanding, breaking the silence and stigma surrounding this vice, supporting survivors as well as encouraging behavioral and attitude change.
