Uganda National U-17 football team (Cubs) surrendered a goal lead and bitterly lost 1-2 to Canada in the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar on Wednesday evening.

Lethal forward James Bogere scored the opening goal for Uganda Cubs in the 25th minute.

Bogere raced onto an inviting through ball from midfielder Brian Jjara, eluding his marker and scoring past the goalkeeper.

Canada denied Uganda a historic victory, fighting hard to equalize with two minutes left on the clock and found the winning goal in added time.

Elijah Rocho scored the equalizer before Marius Aiyenero found the winner with a penalty; much to the disappointment of the Ugandan youngsters.

The Cubs are the first Uganda football team (of any level) to play at the global stage under FIFA competitions.

The loss now leaves Uganda bottom with Canada on three points in group K that also has South Americans Chile and European giants France.
