Namuwongo Blazers have finally dethroned the City Oilers to win their maiden National Basketball League title.
Nam Blazers secured a well-deserved 68-55 victory against City Oilers in Game 6 of the NBL Playoff Finals at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Wednesday.
City Oilers came into the campaign having won 10 straight NBL titles but the Blazers ended the dominance in style after fighting from two games down to post a 4-2 run in the best-of-seven series.
Nam Blazers came out of their blocks early opening a 6-0 run but City Oilers responded with Mer Maker’s jumpshot before Joseph Chuma dropped one from down town.
Chad Bowie concluded the first quarter with followup put back as the City Oilers took a one-point (16-15) lead at the end of the period.
Fayed Baale dropped back-to-back 3-point jumpshots as City Oilers started the second quarter with a great 9-0 run.
Joel Banza started the shooting rampage for the Blazers before Anthony Chukwubuka tied the game 29-29 with a great driving layup.
Jimmy Enabu’s layup concluded the engaging and intresting first half tying the game 35 apiece as both sides strolled to the locker rooms.
Coming from the locker rooms, Enabu drew the first blood with a long 3-point jumpshot before James Okello added a layup for a 5-0 run.
Arthur Wanyoto concluded the period with a jumpshot as the Blazers took an eight point (53-45) lead to the final quarter.
Despite the fight, the Blazers picked a 13-point victory.
James Okello (16 points), Jimmy Enabu (12 points) and Peter Obleng (11 points) led the Blazers in double digits.
