Lydia Namabiro opened the scoring for the Lady Cranes at the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s through a blistering run.
The forward, who has enjoyed some success on the wing for the Lady Cranes, scored a hat-trick of tries in the game where Uganda dominated Burkina Faso in the first half.
Going into the break, Uganda was ahead by 40 points to nil and hoped to continue that onslaught in the second half. Excitement and poor discipline affected the Cranes in the second half, as the Cranes couldn’t get anything going for a good four minutes.
Up stepped former skipper, Peace Lekuru, who ran a good support line after Lona Amoli had broken through the Burkinabe defense. Good communication from Lekuru ensured Amoli was aware that she had support, hence offloading to Lekuru for the first try of the second half.
Janat Nandudu was called upon once again to take the conversion, but she missed, leaving her tally at 5 successful conversions and a try for the game.
The second try of the second half came from the sheer determination of Namabiro, who broke a few tackles and scored just below the poles to complete her tackle. With the kicking duties now handed over to Samiya Ayikoru, the lady Cranes were rather unlucky not to extend their lead, as Ayikoru’s conversion attempt hit the crossbar and came back into play.
The game ended 50-0 for Uganda, who now wait to take on Zambia in their last Pool game of the day.
