Champions don’t win titles but actually defend them, and City Oilers just did that when they defeated Tiger Head Power 87-75 to defend the National Basketball playoff championship.
Oilers became the first men’s team to win the best of seven series without dropping a single game — beating Power 4-0 in the best of seven series.
“To be honest I didn’t see it happening,” said Oilers Ben Komaketch in reference to winning the series 4-0.
Komaketch and Jimmy Enabu who both helped power win their fifth league title in 2011 masterminded thier former team’s downfall.
Jimmy Enabu and Kami Kabange both managed 24 points with seven and five rebounds respectively, with Komaketch coming in with 22.Enabu attributed the win to thier composure and desire.
We were more composed and I think we wanted it more than they (Power) did.
The trio were the only that managed doubles figures compared to Power’s Abdulah ‘Dulah’ Ramadhan (16) Norman Blick (19) and Philip Ameny (16).
Samuel Kalwanayi was dominant for Oilers in the paint coming with 19 rebounds; Power’s Philip Ameny managed only seven with Michael Kojo and Joseph Ikong both returning a total of ten and Paul Odong six.
The win takes Oilers to two league titles on level with the Stanbic Warriors, three short of Tiger head Power and four less of the Falcons who have won a record six league titles.
The Victory also earned Oilers earn themselves a ticket to play again at the Fiba Zone Five Club Championship next year in Rwanda
