Emerging Nations Cup | Uganda W v Tanzania W

  • Tanzania 54 all out
  • Uganda 55/3
  • Uganda won by 7 wickets

Uganda’s Victoria Pearls picked up their second win at the Emerging Nations Cup in Thailand with a thumping seven-wicket win against fellow East Africans, Tanzania.

Uganda made one change to the side with Sarah Akiteng returning in the place of Naume Amongin.

Janet Mbabazi won the toss and elected to bowl first. Consy Aweko got rid of the dangerous Saum Mtae off a brilliant caught and bowled that derailed the run scoring for Tanzania.

Uganda tightened the noose around Tanzania with some good fielding, leading to four run outs that took the sting out of the run scoring.

The wickets were shared by all the bowlers but Immaculate Nakisuyi (2/14) was the outstanding bowler, with Consy Aweko (1/3) and Sarah Akiteng (1/13) offering the backup as Tanzania was bundled out for a cheap 54.

In the run chase, Esther Iloku remained unbeaten on (28) with Captain Janet Mbabazi (13) in support to knock off the required runs despite losing three wickets in the run chase.

Uganda was emphatic in the win that will lift their spirits after previous losses. Tanzania had a mental edge coming into the game because previous bias favoured them but Uganda was able to get some revenge for the losses suffered in Namibia at the Global Qualifiers.

Uganda will take on the Netherlands in their final game of the series before returning home.
