Algeria secured a narrow 1–0 win over Burkina Faso in a tense AFCON 2025 Group E encounter, with the game decided by a first-half penalty from captain Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerians controlled large spells of the contest, showing patience and structure, but were made to work hard for the result.

Burkina Faso grew into the match after going behind, increasing the tempo and committing numbers forward in search of an equaliser.

Their late pressure tested Algeria’s resolve, but the defence stood firm, denying clear chances and seeing out the game.

It was a match defined by discipline, resilience and one decisive moment — all unfolding under the AFCON 2025 lights.
