Morocco secured a well-deserved 3-0 victory against Zambia in the African Cup of Nations encounter at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Monday.
Morocco came into the game after dropping two points against Mali and needed a response to give the home crowd a reason to believe.
Ayoub El Kaabi broke the deadlock in the ninth minute with a powerful header after beating the goalkeeper from close range thanks to Azzedine Ounahi’s lofted pass.
Zambia were pegged on the back foot from the opening minute and the Chipolopolo struggled to find their footing.
Brahim Diaz doubled Morocco’s lead after getting on the end of a team attack in the 27th minute. The attack was started by Azzeddine Ounahi who played in Abde Ezzalzouli with a defence-splitting pass.
Five minutes into the second stanza, El Kaabi extended Morocco’s lead to three with a beautiful scissor kick; however, it was flagged offside. Two minutes later, the crowd was sent into wild celebrations after the VAR review overturned the decision, ruling that the goal would stand.
The victory crowned the day with a sweet win that kept them on top of Group A with seven points in three games.
On the other hand, Zambia lie at the bottom of Group A with only two points
