Uganda Premier League Express Football Club have officially confirmed the departure of four first-team players as the club continues with a tough 2025/26 season.
ganda Premier League heavyweights Express FC have officially announced the departure of four first-team players, marking a significant shift in the squad’s composition during the mid-season break.
The seven-time league champions confirmed the exits via their official social media platforms, releasing a statement to inform the public of the transition.
“The club would like to inform the general public of the departure of Basangwa, Kagawa, Kawawa, and Wandera,” the statement read. “Thank you for the memories and wishing you all the best in your next adventure”.
Richard Basangwa is a versatile forward whp has been a key part of the Red Eagles’ rebuild while Muhammad Kagawa had earlier joined the team to improve its creativity.
Rashid Kawawa offered the Red Eagles speed and trickery in the middle park and become part of the mainstays while Hakim Wandera has been part of the club’s defensive set up.
A Season to Forget
The timing of these departures has raised concerns among the Red Eagles’ faithful. Releasing four senior players during the mid-season break, a period typically reserved for strengthening the roster, leaves the squad increasingly shorthanded for the grueling second half of the campaign.
This move has intensified scrutiny of the club’s management. Critics argue that the leadership has failed to take the necessary steps to restore the Red Eagles to their former stature as a dominant force in Ugandan football.
As Express FC moves forward, the pressure is mounting on the board to prove that these exits are part of a larger plan to fix a season that has, thus far, been one to forget.
