Guinea have been declared group D runners up after winning a draw of lots against Mali in draw held by the Organising Committee of the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday, 29 January 2015 at the Hilton Malabo.

The two West African nations had finished level in group D securing 1-1 draws in all their three fixtures thus calling for drawing lots to decide who joins Cote d’Ivoire who topped the group after beating Cameroon 1-0.

The drawing Lots was conducted in pursuant of Article 74 of the regulations of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations which states that incase teams tie on everything from points, head to head, goal difference and goal scored, a random draw is conducted to determine who bows out.

Guinea will now face Ghana in the quarter finals on Sunday in what will be a repeat of the qualifiers.

The Black Stars won the home tie 3-1 but could only manage a 1-1 draw in Morocco where the Sylly Nationale hosted their fixtures.

Such an incident had last occurred in Morocco 1988 when Algeria qualified from the group at the expense of Ivory Coast.
