A three-day community leaders’ engagement workshop has started at the Innophine Hotel 790 Limited in Entebbe Municipality on Monday, 16th February 2026.
This workshop is organized by Swans Sports Club in conjunction with the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and Uganda Rugby Union (URU) funded by the Olympic Solidarity.
The main thesis of this workshop is embedded on safeguarding as a shared responsibility under the theme “Leadership, sport and community action to end Gender Based Violence”.
Entebbe Municipality Principal Education Officer Joyce Nalubega was chief guest who opened the workshop officially.
She lauded the organizers of this workshop as she highlighted Gender Based Violence as a silent killer in the community today.

“Gender Based Violence is a silent killer. This workshop therefore is a special moment of responsibility, moment of leadership and a moment of change. Sport teaches positive masculinity for boys, confidence in girls, provides safe mentorship spaces and a big financial source for the successful parties. Therefore, there is good cause to protect the young ones against exploitation” Nalubega, a teacher by profession commented.

Joseph Oluka, the assistant administrator in charge of technical docket at the Uganda Olympics Committee (UOC) commended the participants who included local community leaders, headteachers, faith leaders and district sports leaders.
“Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) is excited to work with Swans Sports Club, the implementing partner for this project. We are grateful for the funding from the Olympic Solidarity for this project. Other partners as Uganda Rugby Union, the local community leaders are also commended” Oluka hinted.

Regina Lunyolo, the director at SWANS Sports Club highlighted the value of sport as a platform for mentorship, leadership and protection.
“Sport is a platform for mentorship, leadership and protection. We take pride in working with different partners as Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), Uganda Rugby Union (URU), Olympic Solidarity and a number of community leaders. Teachers nurture young minds, coaches mentor as we always say that Sport must always be safe, inclusive and protective.” Lunyolo remarked.

One of the participants, Jonathan Wamala, the Dean of Students at Entebbe Parents Secondary School commended such a forum where knowledge and special skills are being attained and will be passed onto the students and applicable in families.
“I am humbled to have been one of the participants. It is good that Swans Sports Club has involved the teachers and school leaders in such a workshop. We shall easily pass on the message to the students” Wamala, a former footballer testified.

The opening day had a plenary session with a panel of experts in the morning followed by a break-away session highlighting the topic “Understanding Gender Based Violence risks and leadership gaps”.
