  • Kitara 1-1 URA

URA has stood in Kitara’s way to the league summit, as a win for the hosts would put them level with table leaders Vipers, whom they have a better head-to-head record against.

Kitara and URA played to a one-all draw in the Uganda Premier League encounter played at Royals Park in Butema on Thursday.

Amidst the crowd was Shaban Muhammad, who has joined Kitara in a mega deal and awaits his official unveiling.

Having gone eight UPL games without guiding the ball in the back of the net, URA’s technical team chose to start with two defensive-minded midfielders, namely Joshua Lubwama and George Masembe.

George Senkaba broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, nodding home Musisi Muyomba’s long free kick amid a forest of bodies in the area.

Hussein Mbalangu made a quick tactical change to introduce midfielder Innocent Kisolo for lanky defender George Masembe in the 37th minute.

Norman Namanya levelled matters for URA with a brilliant snapshot through several bodies in the 66th minute. Kitara’s goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige failed to deal with a set piece and his mistake resulted to an equaliser.

In the 68th minute, Kitara were reduced to 10 men after defender Isa Lumu was shown a straight red card.

After getting a point, Kitara lies second on the log with 36 points, two behind the log leader while URA lie 13th with 15 points after 17 games.
