The Uganda Silverbacks have been dealt a significant blow on the eve of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 qualifiers.
It’s official that coach Goran Lojo will miss the first window of the tournament due to an unavoidable medical emergency.
The announcement has surprised the basketball fraternity, as this window was considered the initial phase of coach Lojo’s long-term plan for the Silverbacks.
According to the statement released, the coach has been advised by medical professionals not to travel, forcing him to keep away as the team begins its campaign in Egypt.
While Loro’s absence leaves a big void, the Silverbacks have embarked on Mandy Juruni taking over the head coach role. Mandy arrived in Alexandria on Tuesday morning and will lead the team in this particular window.
The Silverbacks will step foot on the court on Thursday in the duel against Angola as their journey to the World Cup officially gets underway.
