The Cricket Uganda 50 Over League returns this weekend with a new format featuring three divisions: Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
The new format will accommodate four new teams, which include Kifaru, Paki Sheens, Centurion A and B, with Patidar opting out of the 50 Over season.
The Gold Division will feature the first division teams, which include defending champions Kutchi Tigers, Ceylon Lions, Aboojo, JACC, Tornado Bee, Rounders, and the newly promoted GM Sugar and Mukono Warriors.
Kutchi Tigers will be looking for their third title in a row, but they know Ceylon Lions ran them close last year and therefore will try their luck again.
GM Sugar was very impressive in their qualification from Division 2, and they are tipped to shake some tables.
The relegation battle is always interesting, and it will be cutthroat in a one-round robin format for survival. Rounders has lost some firepower as well as Tornado Bee, so they will have to get their act together quickly if they are to survive.
The Silver Division will feature eight teams as well. Relegated Wanderers and Avengers join Soroti City, Kutchi Tigers B, St John SS Mukono, Ismaili Community, SKLPS and Nile CC. Ismaili Community has Cricket Cranes Captain Riazat Ali Shah in their ranks, as well as fast bowler Juma Miyaji. They will be most definitely the favourites to progress, with the top 2 sides gaining promotion to the Gold Division.
The Bronze Division will feature the five new clubs to make a total of 10 teams, put into two groups. Bronze A features Centurion CC, Mukono Development CC, Patidar CC, Tornado CC, Jinja SSS, and Premier CC, while Bronze B includes ACC, Iganga CC, Pak Shaheens CC, Centurion A CC, Chennai CC, and Kifaru CC.
The Top 2 in Silver will get promoted to Gold. The Top 2 in Bronze A and B face each other in a semifinal, and the finalists get promoted to Silver. The last two in Gold get relegated to Silver, while the last two in Silver get relegated to Bronze A and B.
The matches will be staged at Lugogo, Jinja SS, Serenity Oval in Kamengo, GM Sugar in Njeru, Florida in Katosi and Entebbe Ovals, ensuring maximum visibility and competitive intensity.
