The pick of the games on Matchday 1 of the 50 Over Cricket League between Wanderers and Soroti City ended in a stalemate due to the persistent drizzle at the Serenity Oval in Kamengo.

Both teams earned a point that could prove decisive down the line as the league gets to the business end.

Nile picked up a valuable win in their quest for promotion to the top flight. The win was anchored on a century from Chris Namuhoranye (123 not out), who helped Nile pile on 209/5 in a short game against the students of St John’s Mukono. In reply, the school boys ran out of resources at 128/8 to give Nile a huge 81-run win. An unbeaten valiant half-century from Ronald Rubangakene (85) was not enough to inspire the team, but an indication of good things to come for the school boys.

In the Bronze Division, both Centurion sides got off to winning starts. Centurion A got past fellow newcomers Iganga at the GM Sugar ground, with experience between the two sides the difference. Lwamafa Michael (21) and Orumo Gerald (40) anchored the innings for Centurion A in a short game, while Iganga could only manage 49/9 in their allotted overs.

The senior Centurion side got through a tricky encounter with Mukono Development that could have gone either way. Cricket Cranes’ former Captain Brian Masaba (34) held together the top with Jackson Asiku (38) and Ali Balidawa (31) making contributions to the team’s total of 140/9. In response, Mukono Development got off to a poor start and were left reeling at 24/5, and only a rare guard resistance helped push the game to the end but they never fully recovered from the poor start and fell short by 41 runs. The name change is not affecting the quality as they push for a knockout place.
