Overview:

In his address, the club president Alhaji Omar Mandela placed strong emphasis on this objective, informing members of ongoing deliberate efforts towards the same.

Over the weekend, SC Villa convened a General Meeting at the club’s base in Kulambiro to deliberate on a number of key matters.

The meeting, attended by over 150 members including the entire Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, discussed issues ranging from the forthcoming presidential elections to a comprehensive review of the club’s performance over the last four years.

The Chairman Board of Trustees Gerald Ssendaula and the CEO William Nkemba presented reports largely focused on the club’s achievements during that period, outlining progress made across several areas pointing mainly to the areas I had written about.

Villa permanent home in the offing

A major highlight of the meeting was the renewed focus on acquiring a permanent home ground.

He revealed that the club is weighing the possibility of securing approximately 20 acres of land along Entebbe Road. Additionally, members were informed of a presidential pledge of 100 acres of land to the club. The president’s remarks carried a strong tone of optimism and commitment towards resolving the long-standing home ground challenge.

The president further called upon all Villa fans to unite in building the SC Villa brand with a long-term vision — not just for the next 10 years, but for the next 100 years.

Additions to the technical wing

On the technical front, the club has recruited technical advisor Ivica Stankovic to oversee all football operations.

In another development, Nebojsa Kapoor has been appointed to take charge of the youth and reserve teams. The club’s Under-17 side has also undergone a structured development process and is now fully housed at East High School, where the club supports both their education and technical training — a move viewed as a sustainable long-term project.

Financial accounts

Financially, Board of Trustees Chairman Gerald Ssendaula confirmed to members that the club has realized a profit of UGX 1.2 billion from the fixed funds out of the Villa Park compensation money.

Villa, being Bonafide occupants were compensated with over 3.2 billion Ugx which Ssendaula confirmed being on a fixed account and the 1.2 billion is interest on the money.

The club also revealed having over 400 million on the club account earned mainly from the main sponsors Linglong Tyres.

How Members Reacted in the Meeting

When the flow opened for reactions, one of the leading proposals called for a reduction in the price of replica jerseys from UGX 50,000 to UGX 30,000.

This suggestion was promptly countered by a presidential directive proposing the sale of two jerseys at UGX 60,000 — an alternative that was ultimately welcomed by members.

Members also raised concerns regarding the club’s continued interest in the VMT system beyond its use for voting, and requested a comprehensive report on the system’s performance over the years.

In response, Nkemba indicated that the original VMT framework had been discontinued to pave the way for a new approach aimed at eliminating what he termed “ghost fans.”

However, the explanation was widely viewed as insufficient and lacking in detail and on the same matter, Club Legal Director Isaac Walukagga clarified that the system has since transitioned from “Villa Members’ Trust registration” to a broader “Members registration” model.

A separate appeal to reduce VIP match-day ticket prices received no response from the leadership, drawing concern from members.

Timing of the elections questioned

Another notable issue raised was the timing of the club elections in the middle of the season, scheduled for March 22 which some members argued was not in the club’s best interest.

In response, Ssendaula maintained that the timing is legally mandated and further emphasized that the elections had already been delayed due to the country’s general elections, which made it impractical for the club to conduct its polls in November 2025 as it should have been scheduled.

Additionally, a member expressed concern over continued encroachment on part of the remaining Villa Park land. Addressing the matter, the Club President assured members that he had engaged Gen. Katumba Wamala, the Minister of Works and Transport, and that a directive from the ministry is forthcoming to curb the intrusion and safeguard the facility.
