KCCA will take a deserved 1-0 aggregate when they travel to Cameroon to face Cosmos De Bafia in the second leg of the Caf Champions League with hopes sealing the tie to advance to the next stage.
But they weren’t the convincing hosts on Saturday as Cosmos dominated play in the first half of the game though KCCA tried to make a good account of themselves in the second.
And with seven minutes to play for Herman Waswa was the hero when he was picked up by a Saaka Mpiima cross to tap in with his left foot to score his second goal on the continent in three starts.
Generally KCCA choked on the strongest point for goals the crosses from the wing backs, Saaka Mpiima and Simon Namwamja
Ivan Ntege and Hakim Sekumba tried their level best to shield the back four, when they were caught out of position Cosmos got close to Yasin Mugabi
The custodian kept KCCA at bay on two occasions both opportunities falling to Nai Patrick, and not ordinary opportunities but clear goal scoring opportunities.
Herman Waswa couldn’t keep himself out of offside positions while wing backs Saaka Mpiima and Simon Namwanja just failed to find the right technique to cross that ball.
Owen Kasule and Tom Matsiko tried their best to find Wasswa too but all in the vain, the striker turned provider in the 45th minutes For KCCA’s realistic shot on target but Matsiko’s powerful shot was tamed by Mengue Tsogo.
A few minutes into the second Half Abudalla Mubiru introduced Paul Mucwerezi for Hakim Ssekumba who go a knock early in the second half but soldiered on.
Nai Patrick was shown matching orders after 60 minutes for diving, he had earlier been booked for getting into a brawl with Mpiima.
Along pass from Mpiima on 63 minutes across the park to Namwanja, who picked up Mucwerezi, the 19-year old went past the custodian Mengue Tsogo but preferred to get excited instead of concentrating with the goal at his Mersey.
Wasswa also missed from close range with a diving header off a Namwanja cross, at this point Derrick Nsibambi had come one for Kasule.
The duo led the two man attack with Mucwerezi, William Wadri and Matsiko the creative forces behind them.
Mubiru decided to defend the 1-0 lead as he threw Habibu Kavuma as his last dice at the expense of midfielder cum striker Wadri.
