The reigning male Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) and Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) woodball player of the year 2014, Joel Adupa continued with his rich vein of form – winning the men singles’ opening beach woodball circuit of 2015 at Sports Beach, Entebbe over the weekend.
On a rain disrupted event, Adupa tallied 50 strokes, one better of Solomon Kirawa (51) and three off Onesmus Atamba’s 53.
Sophia Namuddu returned 53 to win the women event beating Victoria Nankabirwa and Shamsa Kyolaba Nantege who jointly tied on 54 strokes apiece.
Other Winners:
Francis Kibuule and Isaac Ariho of Botlaz club scored 19 strokes over 6 gates to win the men doubles category, beating Ndejje University duo of Joel Adupa and Bruno Bossa (21 strokes).
In the doubles’ category of the ladies, Ndejje University’s Viola Operu and Cissy Nakato scored 28 strokes to beat Entebbe Woodball club’s pair of Pellon Ritah Asiimire and Gladys Nakijjoba (35 strokes).
Competitive Mixed Doubles:
Lillian Zawedde paired with Israel Muwanguzi Kayongo to tally 26 strokes, same score as Sophie Namuddu and Onesmus Atamba.
The two pairs were neck to neck with the duo of Amanda Namayo and Edward Niwagaba who finished with 27 strokes.
John Baptist Kateregga, an administrator with Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) said in a statement;
The event was well attend save for the rain that disrupted play.We had participants from Busoga University, Bank of Uganda, Botladz Woodball Club, Ndejje University, Nkumba University, Stroke Woodball Club, Entebbe Woodball Club, Ndejje Woodball Club, Proway Sports Academy and St. Joseph’s Technical Institute Kisubi
Beach Woodball is one of the events organized by the Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF).
Next On the Calendar:
The next item on the Federation calendar will be the Teachers’ Woodball workshop on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at City Parents’ Schools, 9am to 5pm.
With the next competitive event being 2nd Mukono schools’ woodball championship that will be hosted by Mukono High School on 28th February 2015.
