Government of the Republic of Uganda has set aside a budget to market and promote the image of the country ahead of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

While addressing the press on Tuesday at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, Dr. Denis Mugimba revealed that Government has prioritized funding of areas aligned to AFCON 2027 in the next financial year.

“Following a process that prioritized what was submitted from the Inter-Sectoral forum, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports obtained approval from Cabinet for allocation of the necessary funding,” reads a statement from Dr. Mugimba.

“Co-hosting of a continental sports event of the magnitude of the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is a complex operation that neither a single Sector nor entity (government or private) can execute and implement alone or in isolation.” He said.

Mugimba revealed that Government will spend Ushs 37.85 in promoting and marketing the image of the country.

Destination Uganda will be aimed at positioning the country as a tourist destination. Uganda is christened the Pearl of Africa is a premier East African destination offering world-class mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, diverse wildlife safaris (Big 7) in 10 national parks like Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls, and thrilling adventures on the Nile.

Morocco who hosted the most recent AFCON invested over $ 1.5 Billion (about 5.6 tillion UGX) to upgrade infrastructure and stadiums for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This massive investment included upgrading nine stadiums across six cities and improving transport infrastructure, such as high-speed trains.

For Uganda, Government has earmarked a total of UGX 1.35 trillion for the infrastructural, logistical, and operational costs of preparations for the co-hosting CHAN-2024 in August 2025 and AFCON-2027. This figure included payment of USD13 million and USD30 million to CAF as individual co-host obligatory commitment fees for CHAN-2024 and AFCON-2027 respectively.

  1. ROADs ROADS ROADS they are very poor especially within Kampala City – If you can work and fix those ones we are good. Then Let those Buildings in the city center get some facelift naye tuswala. Do not forget the emergency hospitals since you are hosting important delegates for AFCON
