Ghana FA have appointed Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach to lead the Black Stars at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in United States, Canada and Mexico.

The 73-year-old Portuguese replaces Otto Ado who was relieved of his duties following abysmal results during the recent international window.

In a statement, the GFA said: “The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, working with all key stakeholders, has appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.”

The former Real Madrid manager who also worked as assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson during Manchester United’s successful era in the 2000s has also managed South Africa, Portugal and Iran at the world cup before.

He led Bafana Bafana to qualification for the 2002 tournament, guided Portugal to the knockout stages in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 editions.

Ghana’s World Cup campaign begins against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before they face England and Croatia in what is expected to be a highly competitive group.

The Black Stars missed the 2025 Afcon showpiece in Morocco and target good results at the World Cup.
