Bukedea Comprehensive School South booked a slot in the Round of 16 at the ongoing USSSA U20 Boys Football Championship in Lira City after overcoming Bristol SS on Friday.
In the Round of 32 game played at Lira Town College Ground, Bukedea Comprehensive School South earned a 3-0 win to progress.
The first half was tight, and Bristol frustrated Bukedea for a long spell, denying them the breakthrough.
Simon Wanyama and Derrick Ssozi had opportunities to fire Bukedea into the lead in the first half, but both missed at different intervals.
Wanyama had the first scoring opportunity of the game in the seventh minute but failed to put the ball beyond goalkeeper Comfort Mumbere.
He had another chance moments later, but instead of lobbing the ball beyond the onrushing goalkeeper, he chose to hit the ball low, and this was easily picked by the shot stopper.
Ssozi, on the other hand, also came close but failed to connect home, and the first half ended goalless.
However, after recess, Bukedea returned a better side with coach Ssali ringing some changes. Ssewagudde was moved into the left back position with Osinya paving way for Bob Atendele, while Patrick Senkusu replaced Patrick Mutebi.
The changes indeed produced the much-needed spark and didn’t take long for Bukedea to break the deadlock through Wycliffe Ssentongo.
Wanyama made a solo run into the box and fired a ferocious strike, but it hit the base of the goal post, only for it to fall into the path of Sentongo, who tapped home.
Moments later, Wanyama eventually got onto the scoresheet, first from the spot when Senkusu was fouled before finding another from close range off another Senkusu lay-up.
On Saturday, Bukedea Comprehensive School South will face Greenlight Islamic School, who edged Kibuli SS 3-2 on penalties after normal time had ended goalless.
