Midland Wanderers Football Club fought gallantly to survive relegation in the South Africa second division league for the 2025-26 season.
Ugandan goalkeeper Ali Mwirusi joined the side mid-way after he left Express Football Club in the Uganda Premier League.
By the time Mwirusi crossed to Midland Wanderers, they were really struggling, as they sat rock bottom with 12 points.
At the end of the season, they had accumulated 21 more points; settling with a total of 33 points as they remained in the championship.
For Mwirusi, he managed to collect as many as 6 clean sheets and he credits the teammates for the collective effort executed.
“I am happy that we worked tireless as a team to show that we remain in the league. It took the effort of every person on the squad, coaches and the entire management” Mwirusi, a former goalkeeper at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Express Football Club remarked.
Baroka and Black Leopards were relegated with 20 and 28 points respectively.
Kruger United emerged as champions with 62 points in the 16 team league.
For starters, Mwirusi has also previously featured at Villajoyosa (Spain) and Squires Gate football club in England.
