Twickenham Cygnets girls team get their trophy

It is now seven years since the passing of Dave Hudgson, a proven lover of football who extended his sheer passion for the beautiful game to Uganda.

Back in the years, Hodgson laid a pivotal fundamental stone to the Everton Uganda chapter with a strong foundation base, as many talented male and female footballers have been identified and nurtured, with a big fraction able to attain education bursaries.

To celebrate his legacy, Everton Uganda Academy started a memorial football tourney that this year marks seven years, now transformed into the David Hudgson Street tournament for U-13 boys and girls.

The tournament in 2026 was held at Nabweru playground, a known hub that has produced many talented footballers who have featured for different clubs in Uganda and the Diaspora, as well as the senior national team, Uganda Cranes.

This tourney lured as many as 16 boys and 8 girls teams in the U-13 cluster.

By the close of business, Sparta 09 and Twickenham Cygnets won the boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively.

“We played well because we have been preparing adequately for this tournament,” Patrick Ssonko, head coach for Sparta 09, a multiple winner for this tournament, remarked.

Edward Robinson, the current chairman of Everton Uganda, was the chief guest as he witnessed the mouthwatering action.

Sparta 09, Sokolo Soccer Academy, Namungoona Soccer Academy, MYSA, Nabweru Community Soccer Academy, Skills Namasuba, Kampala Junior Team (KJT), Everton Uganda B, Everton Uganda A, Kampala Galaxy, Universal Soccer Academy, Super Heroes United Sports Academy (SHUSA), City Stars Soccer Academy, Springs of Joy, MSCADA and Makerere United Soccer Academy were the boys’ teams that took part in the gala.

Prizes:

The prizes given out to the excelling crop included certificates, medals, balls, trophies and plaques for the top scorer, most valuable player (MVP) and best goalkeeper per gender.

This is an annual event where scouts, agents, coaches and school teachers can identify talented players to be recommended for educational bursaries.
