Tiger Head Power were on route to beat City Oilers on Friday night for the first time since 2013 before the Lugogo Indoor Stadium went dark.

Power who last beat Oilers on the very floor in Game 1 of the 2013 second round of the playoffs were leading 63-58 in the Airtel National Basketball League season opener with 1:59 in the final quarter when electricity went off.

“It’s a matter of die another say day” Power’s skipper Joseph Ikong said.

Power trailed by 9 after the opening ten minutes but on returning for the second quarter Paul Odong started filling it up from deep and teams went to the locker rooms at halftime with scores all square at 33.

Oilers returned with a 10-0 run at the start of the third which prompted Robert Mugabe to call for a time  which was followed by Power’s chase down to into the decisive fourth quarter a point down. Teams matched shot-for-shot before Power edged ahead in the final 2 minutes.

“We are not yet there but i think we have greatly improved” Ikong added.

The games couldn’t be completed as lighting couldn’t be restored at the facility and has been rescheduled for Sunday at mid-day much as Power were not in agreement with the reschedule of the game.

“The game  will be replayed on Sunday at 12:00pm” FUBA’s Competitions and Technical Vice President, Yunus Nkutu said.

“It’s not whether teams agree or not. A game has not been completed and we have to find where to fix it. We have set it for Sunday otherwise if we let teams decide we will have nothing done.” Nkuntu added
