Derrick Emukule restarts play

Overview:

If the talks succeed, goalkeeper Derrick Emukule will be envisaging a return to Zambia where he once featured at NAPSA Stars.

The June to August epoch in the football confines is a period of anticipation, decision making and pre-planning for the anticipated upcoming season.

This is time where football clubs plot to enforce their backroom staff (technical and administration), players as well as lay strategies for the season (s) ahead.

Virtually, it is in this time that players, coaches and other administrators alike make wishes as intermediaries (scouts and agents) do the lobbying antics.

Domestic and foreign markets are flooded with offers, many of which come to fruition as others are left pending.

As you assimilate the aforementioned; two outspoken Zambian clubs have emerged as possible destinations for Mbarara City’s goalkeeper Derrick Emukule.

Lusaka based Green Buffaloes Football Club and Mutondo Stars, an entity stationed in Kitwe city, about 350 KM North of the capital city, Lusaka have openly expressed interest in the goalkeeper.

“Nkana FC and Mutondo Stars FC have been monitoring goalkeeper Derrick Emukule and deeply interested in securing him for the upcoming season” a highly placed source which preferred anonymity revealed to Kawowo Sports Media on Monday, 15th June 2026.

Emukule joined the Ankole Lions in the second half of the 2025/26 season as a free agent and was instrumental in the survival battle against the relegation monster.

If the talks succeed, he will be envisaging a return to Zambia where he once featured at NAPSA Stars.

Efforts to speak to Emukule himself where fruitful although he neither confirmed nor denied the developments with a bold generalized answer.

“As footballers, we are like builders on a site. Once a project is completed, you can move to the next site when approached. Personally, I am yet to get any offers on the table” he replied.

Emukule has had a long trek in Uganda’s football following his exploits at Ndejje University in the FUFA Big League and Uganda Premier League; Wakiso Giants, Gadaffi, MYDA, Maroons and lately Mbarara City.

This is enviable experience for the 28 year-old goalkeeper who has matured a great deal in the command of the team from the back, awesome ball distribution, timely interceptions, one-against-one stops, aerial charges and a calm composure in desperate times of controlling the tempo of the game.
