Two of the ten African countries that represented the continent at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup will play at the round of 16 stage.
Morocco and Egypt qualified from the round of 32, the first stage of the knockout after the gruelling group stages.

Morocco needed a 3-2 post-match penalty victory over the Netherlands after normal time and the additional 30 minutes had ended one-all.
Egypt also needed a post-match penalty win, triumphing over Australia 4-2 after 1-all draw in 120 minutes of pulsating football.

Paraguay face France in Philadelphia; Canada takes on Morocco in Houston; Portugal locks horns against Spain in Arlington; the United States of America plays Belgium in Seattle; Brazil tussles against Norway in East Rutherford; Mexico face England in Mexico City; reigning champions Argentina will square off against Egypt in Atlanta, and Switzerland will entertain Colombia in Vancouver.
At stake are eight slots for the quarterfinals as the tournament enters its business end.
Heart breaks for African countries:
South Africa lost 1-0 to Canada; Ivory Coast fell 2-1 to Norway; DR Congo came short 2-1 against England, Senegal was defeated in extra-time 3-2 by Belgium, and Cabo Verde’s Cinderella story came to a halt 3-2 at the expense of the reigning world champions, Argentina.
Colombia defeated Ghana Black Stars 1-0 in the last Round of 32 contest.
