FUFA President Moses Magogo doesn’t see any problem with FIFA, CAF or any Member Association commercialising its competitions to generate revenue.
This comes in the wake of the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), a proposal by Gianni Infantino that was aimed at creating a commercial subsidiary to run its main events, including its World Cups, with external investors able to buy stakes in it.
Magogo was reacting to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Kenyan journalist Collins Okinyo in which he attacked the African football leaders for prioritising personal enrichment, political survival, and financial self-interest over the structural growth of the sport.
In reaction, Magogo was unhappy with Okinyo generalising financial indiscipline, stating that many federations have utilised the resources to improve the game.
“I think generalising financial indiscipline to African Federations is wrong. There are federations utilising available resources to improve the game,” Magogo wrote.
“Football is a very expensive activity if done right.
“African football needs more funding but of course more transparency and control I am still failing to understand why FIFA or CAF or a member association should not commercialise its competitions to generate revenues for its members to reinvest in development of the game. How that be selling away football?”
UEFA and the Asian Football Confederation all went against the idea of the FFE and forced Infantino and FIFA to withdraw the pressure amidst pressure.
