Promotional FUFA Big League Final:
Jinja Municipal Council 6-2 Kirinya/Jinja S.S
Main Final: Maroons 1-0 The Saints
The much awaited Jinja derby between Jinja Municipal Council (JMC) and nemesis side, Jinja S.S happened to be a complete mis-match.
JMC easily outsmarted the secondary school side 6-2 in a completely one sided fixture played at Lugogo KCCA stadium on Saturday.
Whereas Jinja S.S started brightly when James Otim’s first minute header was tipped over for a corner by JMC goalie, Salimu Mafundu, the team faded the next minute and never recovered till the game collapsed.
JMC quickly woke up from the short lived ‘slumber’ at the start of the game and the rest of the action that followed is now a history chapter in Uganda’s football.
Defender, Gerald Massette handed the ball in the area and left back, Aggrey Madoi converted the 3rd minute spot kick sending goal keeper, Joel Mutakubwa on the wrong side.
Moments later, Richard Wandyaka broke through but he shot wide of the Jinja S.S goal posts.
On the quarter hour mark, JMC team skipper doubled his team’s goal advantage, with a deflected effort finding the back of the net from 35 yards.
Sensing danger, the Jinja S.S technical department headed by veteran tactician, Mathew Lucha replaced the ‘ineffective’ Polycarp Bagoole with Franco Onen in the 25th minute.
The change at least relieved the most pressed side at the time to hold onto the pressure before the half time recess.
Barely a minute to the half time whistle, JMC right back, Issa Magumba was cautioned for a malicious tackle on Allan Drajula.
By the first five minutes of the second stanza of the game, Jinja S.S had made numerous attacks to the opposition and at one time, the goal post saved JMC with the goal keeper down and beaten.
Striker, Johnson Wakalaita hit the woodwork with a well driven effort from about 30 yards.
Perhaps the tide of the game changed when man of the match, Madoi scored his second on the day – a classis strike hit from near the corner flag.
Jimmy Jalendo powerfully headed in the fourth goal in the 58th minute before Musa Magumba pulled one back for the Students’ side, who also lost to KJT/Rwenshama F.C at the play off finals during last the 2013/14 season.
At this time, Jinja S.S called for the second change of the game. On came goal keeper, Tom Ikara, replacing an off colour Joel Mutakubwa.
Ikara got the worst welcome message on planet earth, conceding his team’s 6th goal from Richard Wandyaka within the 50 seconds since his introduction.
Yunus Sibira reduced the goal deficit with Jinja S.S’ second goal before Wandyaka had his second on the day and the final JMC strike that also booked them a berth to the Uganda Premier league.
JMC joins Rwenzori group winners, The Saints and Elgon winners, Maroons as the teams promoted to the 2015/16 Uganda Premier League.
The subsequent match to determine the overall winner of the FUFA Big league witnessed Hood Muliki’s goal carry the day for Maroons.
Maroons thus won U.shs 2M as champions on top of gold medals.
Jinja Municipal’s Ambros Kirya scooped the most valuable players’ award as The Saints’ Alex Kitatta Bukenya and Mark Twinamatisko were the top scorer and best coach respectively.
Reactions:
It is a pleasure to have a team promoted. I have handled this side for a short time (less than 2 weeks) but I thank the players and management for the belief.
James Odoch, Jinja Municipal Council head coach:
My team players might have pressed a panic button. This will never be any good performance from this side
