Kagame Cup has since 2002 been bankrolled by Rwanda President Paul Kagame to the tune of $ 60,000 in prize money.

The Council for East and Central African Football (CECAFA) has confirmed that Rwanda will host the next two editions of the club championship; Kagame Cup.

Rwanda hosted this year’s tournament which Rayon Sport won after beating Gor Mahia 2-1 in extra time at Amahoro stadium in Kigali.

“The Council for East and Central African Football (CECAFA) has awarded Rwanda hosting rights for the regional CECAFA Kagame Cup for the next two years,” a statement read in parts.

“After the successful hosting of the 2026 Cecafa Kagame Cup, the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) requested to host the next editions of the tournament.”

There are also reports that prize money will be increased for the next two editions.

Meanwhile, Cecafa has invited Member associations interested in hosting the Senior Challenge Cup to table their bids.

The competition has not been held since 2021 in Ethiopia with Tanzania still the champions after beating Burundi in the final.

Uganda are the record holders with 15 titles, the latest coming in 2019 when it was hosted on home soil.
