Kawempe Muslim made a perfect start to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, overcoming Ethiopia’s CBE in the game played on Monday at the Kigali Pele stadium.
Agnes Nabukenya’s lone effort from the spot was the difference as the Valley Warriors made a positive start to the tournament. With CBE having won their first game 11-0 against UJECO from Djibouti, Kawempe needed to win to guarantee their chances in a group that has only three teams.
Today’s win means Kawempe will need just a point against minnows UJECO in their final group game on Wednesday to top Group C.
CBE on their other hand will have to rely on results from elsewhere to know if they take the best second-placed position across all the three groups.
Kawempe’s result today was sweet revenge against CBE who eliminated them at the semifinal stage two years ago.
