A depleted squad will test the depth and resolve of Entebbe UPPC kick off their new league season against defending champions Vipers SC, with up to six key first-team players sidelined through injury.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, an unfazed Livingstone Mbabazi confirmed that Grant Matsiko, Ahmed Amayo, Isa Bugembe, Julius Poloto, Ambrose Kigozi, and Anwar Ntege will all miss the high-stakes opener.
Despite the heavy casualty list, the tactician expressed firm confidence in his squad’s ability to step up and deliver on the big stage.
“We have prepared well,” Mbabazi said. “However, we suffered a few injuries keeping important players out of the frame. But we have able replacements, and we shall give them a chance.”
Facing the reigning champions on opening day presents a formidable challenge, but Mbabazi views the encounter as an ideal benchmark for his side’s ambitions this season.
“The game against Vipers gives us a good challenge and we shall pick up all necessary lessons. We are going to play against the champions, but we want to improve ourselves compared to last season’s performances,” Mbabazi added.
The absences leave a noticeable void in both attack and defense, particularly with the loss of influential figures like Poloto and Ntege.
However, the crisis opens the door for fringe players and new signings to stake their claim in the starting eleven.
