Pressure is beginning to mount on KCCA FC head coach Brian Ssenyondo after his side was held to a frustrating goalless draw by newly promoted Kigezi HomeBoyz at Rwamwanja Stadium, Kamwenge, on Tuesday.
KCCA FC head coach Brian Ssenyondo has called on his frontmen to sharpen up in front of goal after the Kasasiro Boys were held to a goalless draw by newly promoted Kigezi HomeBoyz.
The frustrating deadlock extends KCCA’s winless start to the new campaign, having previously fallen to defeats against NEC FC (2-0) and Express FC (2-0) in their opening two fixtures.
Despite dominating long spells of the encounter and creating several promising scoring opportunities, the 13-time Uganda Premier League champions failed to break down a resilient Kigezi HomeBoyz defence, leaving them still searching for their first league goal of the season.
Speaking after the match, a visibly concerned yet composed Ssenyondo insisted that finishing off chances remains the primary hurdle for his side.
“We are not yet clinical. We have created several chances but have failed to convert any. We need to be very clinical,” Ssenyondo admitted. “At least you can see that the boys were fighting, but we need to bury chances.”
Despite missing out on maximum points, the tactical setup under Ssenyondo showed encouraging build-up play and structural improvement.
Ssenyondo was quick to shield his squad from harsh criticism, emphasising that the team’s overall effort warrants patience.
“I am happy that at least we are playing well. Much as we are not winning, you cannot fault the team for a poor show,” he added. “We shall switch focus to the next game, but at least I’m glad to say the team is playing well.”
With pressure building up around Lugogo to translate tactical control into actual results on the board, Ssenyondo offered a firm guarantee that his team will bounce back in their upcoming fixture.
“We need to win the next game so that we can turn the season around. I can guarantee you that,” he assured.
The result leaves KCCA sitting 15th on the 18-team table with just a single point, while Kigezi HomeBoyz occupy 13th place.
