The Armed Forces derby between Police and UPDF at the Kira Road Police Arena failed to find a clear cut winner on match day three of the 2026-27 Uganda Premier League.
With the numerous goal scoring opportunities created for these two clubs, none was converted.
The hosts created the first chance when Police’s Ivan Mayanja had a shot deflected for a corner kick in the 17th minutes.
Moments later, Mayanja set up new signing Samuel Ssekamatte Kayongo whose shot was blocked by a barrage of legs in the goal area.
Police goalkeeper Hadji Shukuru swiftly recovered to solider on following a head knock by Shafik Kakande.
The best chance for UPDF in the opening half and possibly the entire game came on the half hour mark when defender Dennis Jakony cleared off the goalline from Kakande’s half volley.
Police left back Farouk Matovu had a goal bound shot blocked in the 35th minute.
The first booking of the game was shown to UPDF’s forward Derrick Taremwa for a foul on goalkeeper Shukuru towards the end of the first half.
Lawrence Tezikya replaced Rogers Kiwanuka at the start of the second half.
Towering Congolese forward Bedia Ikamba was introduced 10 minutes into the final stanza for Dennis Ojara, on loan from Sports Club Villa.
Police defender Benon Tahomera got booked for a wild lunge onto Hassan Zzinda.
Taremwa was rested for Rashid whilst Shafik Kakande was replaced by Ineah but was later stretchered off with an injury and his slot taken by Julius Mukwaya Waswa.
With twenty minutes to play, Police made a double change; Ivan Mayanja and Ssekamatte were taken out for Emmanuel Mugume and Charles Bbaale respectively.
Ikamba missed a free-header off a telling delivery from the right flank by Stephen Namaisi in the 73rd minute.
UPDF substitute Mukwaya recorded a couple of shots off target before he was cautioned by the referee for rough play onto Police’s midfielder Siraje Sentamu.
The final chance for the game fell to Police’s Tezikya who shot straight to goalkeeper Shamulan Kamya deep in injury time as the game ended goalless.
From three matches played, Police has now attained four points. UPDF remains winless in their opening three games as they earned their second point out of the possible nine.
