Heated rivalry in the women’s National 7s series continues at the Kyabazinga 7s as the Nile Rapids battle Avengers in Pool A.
The Kyabazinga 7s defending champions returned to winning ways by being crowned the Lawii Rwodi 7s.
On their way to that title in Gulu, the Rapids went past the Avengers in the semifinal, defeating them 10-5.
At the Kyabazinga 7s, the two sides will face off once again in what is expected to be a battle of who finishes 1st and 2nd in the pool.
Their first Pool phase encounter came at the Rujumba 7s, where both sides shared the spoils in a 12 – 12 encounter. In their next fixture at the Kyadondo 7s, the Avengers demolished the Rapids 22-0 on Day 1.
Lying in wait are the Thunderbirds, who find themselves in a fairly light Pool B alongside the She Wolves, Walukuba Titans and Mbale Eagles.
Should the Kyadondo side top their Pool as expected, they would have to face an Avengers side that they have beaten at every turn in this year’s series, or a Nile Rapids side that beat them in both the Pool and knockout phases in the previous stops.
On the other hand, the Avengers and Nile Rapids have the opportunity to meet again in the final of the Kyabazinga 7s. This is largely speculative and dependent on either of the aforementioned sides defeating a very strong Thunderbirds side in the semifinal.
The silent factor is whoever finishes 2nd in Pool B between the She Wolves and Walukuba Titans. These two decent sides have made the Kyadondo 7s and Rujumba 7s finals respectively and could have a say on the outcome of the Kyabazinga 7s.
While the competition is stiff at the top end of the table, the newly promoted Ewes RFC have the opportunity to pull away from the bottom. They’d leave the Mbale Eagles and Black Pearls to fight against finishing last, but without surviving relegation.
