Following successful completion of the first preliminary phase of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League, the next stage (second preliminary round) is set with fixtures confirmed.
At the next preliminary phase, giants, including defending Champions Mamelodi Sundowns enter the fray. The games will be played between 16th -18th October (first leg) and 23rd -25th October (second leg).
Sundowns will begin their title defence against Wiliete from Angola. The latter overcame Seychelles’ Foresters 5-0 at the first preliminary stage. TP Mazembe will face Club Africain a clash of giants, Orlando Pirates will face African Stars from neighbouring Namibia while Rwanda’s APR will face an uphill task against Zamalek.
Only one tie from the first preliminary round is still pending that is the encounter between Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto and Fomboni from Comoros. Agosto won the first leg 4-0 and the return leg is slated for 3rd October.
The winner on aggregate between the aforementioned two teams will face Tanzania’s Simba at the second preliminary round.
The winners on aggregate at the second preliminary phase will advance to the group stage where 16 teams will be drawn into groups of four.
