Every football journey has a beginning, but for Alex Yiga, the chapter written at Lugogo was woven deeply into the fabric of his youth. It all started back in the KCCA Soccer Academy, where a young boy with blistering pace, sharp vision, and a rare gift for using both feet immediately stood out as a bright spark for the future.
Before the senior team lights ever shone down on him, Yiga was already tasting glory. He wore the badge proudly as the junior side conquered the Cambiasso International Tournament in Dar es Salaam and soon carried that momentum onto the international stage, helping the Uganda Cubs clinch bronze at the 2022 CECAFA U-17 Championship in Ethiopia.
His raw talent soon caught eyes far beyond East Africa. In January 2023, just 16 years old, Yiga packed his bags for a grand adventure in Scotland and England. Guided by Festoweb Sports Management, he walked onto the training grounds of European giants like Rangers, Dundee, and Manchester City. It was a whirlwind of new tempos, elite setups, and high-level competition, an invaluable taste of the world stage before returning home to keep building his dream at KCCA.
When the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League season rolled around, the hard work paid off. Yiga earned his rightful promotion to the senior team alongside fellow academy graduates. Though his young career also saw him navigate spells involving Proline and a series of player movements, KCCA remained the anchor of his footballing education.
Over the next stretch, opportunities in the senior squad were hard-earned. In the 2025/26 season, he went on to make 16 Uganda Premier League appearances and featured in a Uganda Cup clash against Onduparaka, chipping in with two crucial goals and two assists. Some of his fondest senior moments came under the lights: a sweet memory against Lugazi at Lugogo, and a fine, solely crafted goal away at BUL.
Yet, as the transfer deadline approached, reality set in. Limited opportunities meant it was time for the young attacking midfielder to seek a new horizon. But leaving Lugogo wasn’t just a professional transaction; it was a heartfelt parting from home.
Taking to X, Yiga poured his soul into a farewell that captured the depth of his devotion.
“Today I say goodbye to a club that gave me more than just a place to play football,” he wrote.
He thanked KCCA for believing in him, for the chance to grow and for teaching him what it meant to pull on the jersey.
“From the first day I put on that jersey, I felt the pride, the responsibility and the love that comes with wearing these colours.”
Reflecting on the victories, the struggles, the sacrifices, and the lessons, Yiga acknowledged how the club shaped him.
“You made me a better player, a stronger man and a more humble person. KCCA FC is more than a club; it’s a family, a dream and a home. No matter where life takes me, this chapter will always be a part of my story. I’m not just leaving a club; I’m leaving a part of my heart.”
And then came the definitive words that echoed through Lugogo: “Once a KCCA man, Always a KCCA man.”
He didn’t forget the heartbeat of the club, the supporters who stood in the stands through thick and thin. Calling them his motivation, strength, and joy, he thanked them for the chants and the energy that made every match feel like home.
“You have been more than just supporters. You are the heart of this club.”
As Alex Yiga turns the page to the next chapter of his career, he carries with him the lessons of the academy, the memory of European pitches, and the indelible stamp of the yellow and blue.
