Uganda’s campaign at the Kampala International Future Series 2026 has come to a close for most of its players, with Muzafaru Lubega and Gladys Mbabazi emerging as the country’s only representatives in Sunday’s finals at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
The home contingent endured a difficult Saturday as several players fell in the quarterfinals and semifinals, leaving Lubega and Mbabazi to carry Uganda’s hopes in the mixed doubles. The top-seeded pair secured their place in the final with a three-game semifinal victory over Kenya’s Eric Ngumo and Jacinta Nyaranda Sengera, winning 21-11, 19-21, 21-10.
Their progress provided a bright spot in an otherwise challenging day for Uganda, which saw its representatives eliminated across the singles and doubles draws.
The quarterfinals were particularly demanding for the home players, with India’s competitors featuring prominently in the latter stages. Uganda’s Fadila Shamika, Kruthum Nalumansi and Tracy Naluwooza all exited the women’s singles, while the men’s singles campaign also ended with Reagan Micheal Nsubuga’s defeat.
India’s strong showing in the knockout stages is reflected in Sunday’s five finals, with the country represented in every event.
The women’s doubles final will feature Akshita Manral and Ishita Negi against Sonali Singh and Ritika Thaker, while Abhyuday Choudhary and Ayush Makhija take on Manav Choudhary and Himanshu Tiwari in the men’s doubles.
Negi and Manral will meet again in the women’s singles final, while Abhishek Kanapala faces Tanmoy Bikash Boruah in the men’s singles.
Uganda’s only final appearance will be in the mixed doubles, where Lubega and Mbabazi face Hashim and Lim in the third match on Court 1, following the two doubles finals.
For Uganda, the tournament’s closing day offers an opportunity to salvage its campaign with a title. For Lubega and Mbabazi, it is the culmination of a run that has survived several demanding encounters and kept the home nation represented in the final.
