KCCA FC head coach Brian Ssenyondo has expressed immense satisfaction with his team’s roster quality and the goalscoring return of forward Ivan Ahimbisibwe.
Ahimbisibwe, who finished as the league top scorer last season, recently rejoined KCCA following a brief stint in Iraq. He made an immediate impression on his second debut last Friday, coming off the bench to score the decisive winner against URA FC at the HAMZ Stadium in Nakivubo.
“We always go for what we believe is the best for this club and when Ivan became available, we said we should have him back,” Ssenyondo said regarding the striker’s return. “Good enough, he came on and gave us a win. For him as a young man, it also motivates him and builds confidence going into the rest of the season.”
A wealth of attacking options
Ahimbisibwe’s return injects even more firepower into a highly competitive KCCA frontline that already boasts target men Emmanuel Anyama and Charles Lwanga. This robust strike force is well-supported by a creative midfield packed with options like Ibrahim Kasule, Said Mayanja, Ettiene Katenga, Shafik Nana Kwikiriza, Ismael Fahad, Sammy Ssebaduka and Ashraf ‘Fadiga’ Mugume.
Ssenyondo believes that managing such an abundance of talent is a welcome tactical headache, noting that healthy internal competition is exactly what drives a team toward silverware.
“When you have quality in depth, it helps the team and motivates others to work hard and pushes others to get better,” Ssenyondo explained. “So having those options in front and midfield can only shape and better the team. We hope it continues until the end of the season because that brings competition which is vital if the team is to win trophies.”
Sights set on three in a row
Currently riding a three-match unbeaten streak, Ssenyondo’s men have a chance to secure their third consecutive victory when they visit Ntugasaze FC in Kamwokya. With confidence high and squad depth peaking, KCCA will look to keep their fine momentum rolling.
