Ten times league champions Kampala City Council Football Club (KCC FC) have finally changed name to Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC).

This was confirmed by the club Chairman Julius Kabugo and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations who offered the registration certificate ahead of the 2015/16 season campaign with the name KCCA FC.

“This is part of the many changes we have ushered in at the club in the last 100 days in office,” said Kabugo.

“Some opportunistic people wanted to portray the club as one on the stock exchange market that grants them shares which is not the case. We inquired from the Capital Market Authority (CMA) and Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) and we were told that the club has never sold shares to anyone. The state of affairs now implies that the club belongs to all the fans in Uganda but under KCCA,” he added.

KCCA was established in 2010 under an Act of parliament as a corporate governing body replacing KCC.

Though the club had for long remained KCC FC, some members of the KCCA always preferred referring to the club as KCCA FC albeit FUFA, CAF and FIFA all insisting on the old name.

It remains to be seen how some fans will react to this change with rumours that some want to take the issue to court.
