Ugandan Peruth Chemutai made history in the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa by winning two silver medals as Uganda finished 23rd out of 64 countries.

Chemutai won her first silver on Monday when she reached the tape second just behind Australia’s Amy Hardling Delloze in 1,500m.

She clocked a record time of 4:18:22 before proceeding with a second finish to again in the 3,000m behind Kenya’s Sheila Chelangat on Wednesday.

Beatrice Ayikoru, secretary Uganda Athletics Federation told Xinhua remarked that the duo, Chemutai and Janat Chemusto who came off with two bronze medals too, sprung up a sense of pride among Ugandans.

“We are proud of our two athletes who have performed well and won four medals in Samoa.”

Other Ugandans; Yasin Abudallah Adiman and Elisha Ekikubisenzatabatemwa came close but stopped at the quarter finals of the 56kg boxing competition and heat 2 of the 50m freestyle swimming competition respectively.

Uganda earned four medals overall, two silver and two bronze as the feat came to end on Friday. The next Commonwealth Youth games will take place in Gold Coast Australia in 2018.
