Ordinarily, sports journalists are known addicts of the respective games they passionately report about.
An opportunity to associate with the respective games’ stake holders, learn the game laws, and play the the sports themselves will always be as welcome as a heavy storm has been in Hell.
On Sunday, the Uganda Woodball Federation organized a sports journalist one day tournament meant to further sharpen the reporting skills of the game.
Over 12 gates of action held at the MUBS fairways in Nakawa, Urban TV’s Muruka Thomas hit 73 strokes to lift the men’s crown overcoming a big field of committed journalists.
Muruka was four strokes better of FUFA F.M’s Hamza Nsereko (77) and nine better of Family F.M’s Jimmy Aporu (82).
Irene Deborah Nanyonjo (Namirembe FM) lifted the ladies’ crown with 82 strokes.

Meanwhile, the UWbF Executive members also took to the fairways to play the game that they have served with passion over the year. Vincent Kisenyi (1st Vice President), Shahnaaz Luwedde (2nd Vice President), Joseph Collins Ssemmanda (General Secretary), John Baptist Kateregga (Treasurer) and Gerald Kavuma (Schools Commissioner) all broke from the usually hectic office arrangements and competed as guests.
The sports journalists appreciated the UWbF Executive for such an innovation and requested that a series of circuits be organized for them on a regular basis starting December 2015.
The next event on the UWbF competitive calendar is the 7th Uganda Open Woodball Championship slated for October 10 & 11, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Technical Institute Kisubi.
In preparation for the event, UWbF has planned a one-day refereeing workshop for residents of Entebbe on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Technical Institute Kisubi.
The 12 outstanding participants will be selected to officiate at the Uganda Open Woodball Championship.
