Sixty nine goals were scored in just 9 matches during the opening day action of the 2015 National Beach Soccer Championship at Lido Beach in Entebbe.

Group A had 33 goals in five matches and 36 goals were scored in Group B from just 4 games played.

In Group B, Mutesa I Royal University posted the biggest scoreline in their 8-2 victory over Busoga University. Julius Rulinda led the assault with 5 goals. Primo Kimera, Samuel Magumba and Paul Kato had the other goals while Godfrey Mulongo’s brace was the consolation for Busoga.

St Lawrence University were also 6-3 winners over nemesis, Nkumba. Vipers striker, Brian Nkuubi had 5 goals as Pius Mbidde capped the icing on the cake. Rica Byaruhanga’s hat-trick was the consolation for Nkumba University.

Nkumba University returned in demolition fashion winning 6-1 over Mutesa I Royal University. Roch Somoka grabbed a hat-trick, Jonathan Kikonyongo notched a brace and Bright Stars’ winger, John Kokas Opejo scored the other. Primo Kimera scored Mutesa I’s consolation.

“Since this game is all about shooting and scoring, the goals at the tournament manifest the growth of the game in the country” Deo Mutabaazi,  chairman of the Uganda Beach Soccer Association told Kawowo Sports.

In the Group A games played, KIU won 4-7 over Mbarara’s Bishop Stuart University. Nigerian born import, Isaac Eshioke, Steven Canon, Geofrey Musirike each had a goal. Seif Matovu and Yusuf Masanga were the other scores with each having a brace.

Bishop Stuart’s goals came from Jumail Kisando (2), Hassan Kakuru and Hilary Mukundane.

Defending Champions, MUBS won three games over International University of East Africa (IUEA), YMCA and Bishop Stuart winning 6-1, 4-2 and 3-1 respectively.

Isma Kawaawulo leads the MUBS’ scoring board with 4 goals, closely followed by Frank Bomboka on three.

The Nakawa based institution missed the services of their head coach, Charles Ayiekho who was with Uganda Premier League side, Soana in the away trip to Jinja as they defeated BUL F.C 1-0.

Day two of the University beach soccer tourney will climax with semi-finals and finals.

Nine universities are taking part.
